Our roots run deep

At Boenker Farm, our story is woven into the very soil we tend. It's a tale of family, perseverance, and a treasured gift that has blossomed across generations. Discover the rich history behind our heirloom Mexican Tuberoses and the passion that continues to drive us.

The gift of the tuberose

Amidst this bustling farm life in the 1840s, our great-great-grandma's kindness towards the Mexican migrant families was deeply appreciated. As a heartfelt gesture, one family presented her with six precious tuberose bulbs. From these original six bulbs, nurtured with dedication and love, we have continuously grown this same heirloom single-stem rose for generations. We even have an old photograph of the family homestead, proudly displaying these beautiful roses blossoming in the sun. Today, we gracefully plant, cultivate, dig up, and store these treasured bulbs from November to May, continuing a tradition that started with a simple, profound gift.

A journey from the heartland

Our family's legacy began in the 1800s when the Boenkers, alongside their cousins, immigrated to the United States. Following the southern route up the Mississippi River from New Orleans, they eventually disembarked in Missouri, drawn to the rich soils east of St. Charles. These early pioneers quickly embraced farming, cultivating over 5,000 acres of turnips, potatoes, grapes, tomatoes, peaches, apples, and cherries to feed the growing city of St. Louis. The scale of their operations even attracted migrant workers, who rode the Wabash Railroad from Mexico to augment the family's labor.

Nurturing nature, growing community

Our hearts beat with the rhythm of traditional farming and a profound love for agriculture and the beautiful Earth. We continue this legacy for the sheer joy of gifting these exquisite flowers – to our church, to newlyweds, and to cherished friends. The Mexican Tuberose, with its intoxicating fragrance and singular beauty, is also a magnificent pollinator flower, greatly benefiting the busy bees on our Huntsville, Alabama property. They are more than just flowers; they bring family and community together, fostering connections with every fragrant bloom.

"God first, others second, self love. We believe in the sanctity and common unity of life. The joy of cultivating the abundance and richness of the Good Earth and sharing its gifts provide the love in our hearts. We are blessed with all the seed bearing plants, hurbs, and fruits to enjoy."
